It’s not set in stone, and patents don’t always lead to products, but a recent patent application has revealed Sony’s plans to expand its virtual reality arsenal. Sony have envisioned a VR glove not too far removed from the fated Nintendo PowerGlove. While the existence of such a product cannot be confirmed at this time, it is probable that the product is Sony’s way of maintaining its position in the console market with the imminent explosion of virtual reality.
Through early sketches it seems as if the glove is considerably more lightweight with sensors that will be able to detect movements of the hand and contact of the hand with other objects. There are a wealth of futuristic diagrams being thrown across the internet at the moment, each detailing the mechanics of this new invention.
With Sony recently announcing a special PlayStation VR event March 15th – factors such as price, release date, titles, features, and specs are still hanging in the air but hopefully not for much longer.
