Ubisoft have gotten bold with their movie-making recently. Despite the original motion picture not reaching theatres until December, there’s evidence to suggest that a second one is in the works. That takes some serious confidence in your product, though Assassin’s Creed (the movie) is looking like a welcome departure from the cheesey laziness we’ve seen from movie spin-offs in the past.
Reports are suggesting that Ubisoft Motion Pictures and New Regency are currently in the pre-production phase of the second movie, working reportedly with Michael Fassbender once again. With not even a trailer to gauge how successful the original film will be, we’re still in the dark surrounding the success of this translation from video game to movie. Though Ubisoft has put their Assassin’s Creed video game hat firmly in the closet for 2016, focusing exclusively on these movies, so it’s likely that we’re not looking at a half-baked milking of a lucrative cash cow.
What we do know is that the first film will follow the story of Callum Lynch (Fassbender) as he, you guessed it, finds out he’s the descendent of a secret society of assassins and runs around 15th century Spain to defeat the Templars.
