In a press release today, Ubisoft proudly announced that The Division is the fastest-selling game in its history. It was to be expected, as after the beta went live 6.4 million players logged into the servers – making it the industry’s biggest ever beta for a new game brand on a current generation.
Without any specific numbers from Ubisoft themselves, it’s difficult to gauge just how far in front the game was. However, David Polfeldt, Managing Director, commented that “The Division really represents Ubisoft at its best”, adding that “This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly it marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in The Division’s game world, which we are confident they will love.”.
We have to hand it to them – Ubisoft have been killing it in the last few years. Estimates place Ubisoft at the heart of three of the top four most successful new IP to hit the industry ever (The Division, Watch Dogs, and Assassin’s Creed stand up there with Bungie’s Destiny). So it’s hardly surprising that their most recent open world extravaganza opened with such monumental success.
