We were teased with a Telltale Batman series last December, but now further details have emerged from a SXSW panel. The minds behind Tales from the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us will be heading up the first season, which will release this summer.
The team announced a duality in the way they’ve shaped their narrative in the latest Telltale instalment, player decisions as Bruce Wayne in daylight will affect the villains he encounters as Batman at night and vice versa, with the option to approach key events as either Bruce or Batman with consequences for each decision.
Details about the villains themselves are being kept closer to Telltale’s hearts, however we have been told that the series will feature staples that appear alongside Batman such as Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, James Gordon, and Renee Montoya. The series will see the Batman universe reimagined through a modern lens, with focus remaining tightly on the titular character and more mature themes – the series will not be “tied to any existing iteration of Batman” (Telltale).
This mature, modern approach will see the series release with an ‘M’ rating, especially given the cinematic nature of the title as allowed by the enhanced engines and technologies under the hood. No visuals have been released as of yet, as the team have been spending the last year working with scripting and narrative, however the summer release date means screenshots should be just round the corner.
