Gears of War 4 / Banner Saga 2 / P.O.L.L.E.N / Star Fox Zero / PAX East: Your Guide To Gaming This Week

Here’s a heads up for your upcoming week in the gaming world. It’s all go for the Gears of War 4 beta, a handful of promising indie releases, some VR space exploration, and conventions for the old-timey and fresh faced devs among us.

Monday 18th April will see Gears of War 4 beta keys begin to be distributed throughout the lucky players who secured early access via Gears of War Ultimate Edition, whereas regular Xbox Live Gold users will have to wait for the open beta running from the 25th to the end of the month.

Tuesday 19th April will bring some indie experiences into the mix with Banner Saga 2 a sequel to the viking adventure RPG that saw success within its initial niche. As well as some bigger names with French studio Pastagames bringing their ball-popping arcade title Pang Adventures to the PS4. Tuesday is also the day of the LA Games Conference, a chance for the most influential in the digital industry to rub shoulders and share ideas about the future of the industry, all to the soundtrack of speakers such as Twitch’s Andy Swanson and Ubisoft’s VP of Digital Publishing Chris Early.

Wednesday 20th April introduces P.O.L.L.E.N to the world. The sci-fi mystery has teased us with VR trailers and expos since its announcement in August 2014. Set in an alternative Universe where the space race led to massive colonisation and mining across the solar system, players must explore the surface of Titan in a search and rescue after the disappearance of a research team member. P.O.L.L.E.N will be available on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PS4, and PC.

Thursday 21st April marks Star Fox’s return to the skies with Star Fox Zero and accompanying tower defence Star Fox Guard. Star Fox Command was our last installation in the ever popular Nintendo series, and that was 10 years ago on the good old Nintendo DS. Nintendo have been pushing the title for months now, releasing trailer upon trailer (which you can read about here) in order to draw players away from their Xbox and PlayStation. Star Fox Zero will launch on WiiU for $60 which also bags you Star Fox Guard.

Friday 22nd April cuts the ribbon on PAX East. The indie-centric games conference will take place in Boston from 22nd – 24th. With indie showcases, fascinating panels, and musical performances, it’s a weekend to show off and party on.
