We’ve had word via a recent Capcom financial review, that the Resident Evil series is set for a reboot in the second half of next year.
We kind of saw it coming, what with the general bombardment of re-releases and remakes we’ve been subjected to over the past few months, and will do up to the end of 2016. It’s obvious they’re gearing up for something big. Resident Evil 6 was released four years ago, since then we’ve had spin-offs, Resident Evil Revelations 2, and glossy paint jobs on fan favourites. Amping this up as 2016 dawned, Capcom have been stirring the fan base for something since January.
All we have to go on is this:
“In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the Company is scheduled to release “Resident Evil Umbrella Corps” (for PlayStation 4 and PC) of the “Resident Evil” series, which marked its 20th anniversary in March 2016, as warm up to the full-scale offensive planned for the second half of the year”.
Some are debating the possibility of a Resident Evil 7, however the very notion of a ‘full-scale offensive’ remains incredibly vague. We only know that whatever they’ve got planned, Capcom are expecting it to shake up their market.
