Rumours are circulating that Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 will be revealed at E3 this year, stemming from a Tokyo-based analyst.
However many are receiving the news with a snarky cynicism. It’s been four years since the survival horror series suffered the dismal release of its most recent instalment Resident Evil 6. The title was slated as a cookie-cutter release, a game churned out of Capcom’s survival-horror-o-matic machine. Even long time fans of the series often hide their copy of the game in the corner.
The news then, that Capcom is planning an entire reboot of their Resident Evil series beginning with a Resident Evil 7 in 2017 could either be the final nail in the coffin or a revelation (hehe). For Resident Evil 7 to succeed, it needs to do something new. It needs to bring a startling turnaround to the series, and do it to the best of this console generation’s ability. We don’t want another series of the same environments with the same stories, we’re tired of the mechanic now and it’s tired of us. Give us some weapon variation, some new features, a new goal – we saw it a little bit with Revelations 2 and we want more.

I’m not going to be laying my faith with Capcom, they should just allow another team whom would be inspired to do great things with the series. Look at how Dead Rising turned out! That was a Canadian company and look how awesome the games are!! Either that or Mikami come back and fix this garbage…then again The Evil Within was more a blend of 4’s mechanics
