News hit today that Sony will be rolling out its 2-step verification process across PS4 systems in Australia and New Zealand some time tonight. A Sony support worker detailed the security improvements, announcing that after implementation in Australia and NZ, the move will spread to more regions.
A 2-step verification has been on the cards for a while with Sony due to their highly vulnerable PSN accounts. The hacking increases seen over the past few years have spurned the company to implement the system which sees players entering their mobile number into the account. Any future PSN logins will then cue a code to be sent to the mobile number which will then need to be entered into the system.
That’s for PS4 anyway. Vita and PS3 will roll out slightly differently, basically just implementing a second password on these devices – strangely not as secure.
