It’s a common misconception that the PS Vita games list has been left to rot. Yes, Sony seems to have kicked their handheld under the rug since the PS4 climbed onto its pedestal, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to get your thumbs into on the console. The PS Vita console design is so sleek and gorgeous it would be a crime to let it continue gathering dust in your drawer, so here are 5 ways to rejuvenate your PS Vita games list in 2017.
Take Advantage of the PS Vita Retro Games List
There’s a massive amount of PS1, PSP, and even PS2 titles to take advantage of on the PS Vita. If you’ve become disenfranchised with the limited PS Vita game release list, then take the time to dedicate a PS Vita memory card to the good old days and enjoy a new lease of life on the handheld. From the original Crash Bandicoot to the wonders of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Legend for PSP, the Vita actually supports a refreshing backlog of excellent classics that will have you hooked all over again.
There’s such a wealth of different genres available, and so many classic and undiscovered titles to choose from, nobody can truly be bored having a browse of the PS Store on the small screen. Prices are reasonable too, meaning you can grab PS1 titles on the cheap for a couple of quid, or splash out a fiver for a PS2 or PSP upgrade.
Retro PS Vita Games On My Console:
- Crash Bandicoot (PS1)
- Crash Bandicoot Team Racing (PS1)
- Constructor (PS1)
- Jak and Daxter Trilogy (PS2)
- God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP)
Check Out Some Indie PS Vita Games
Indies jumped on the PS Vita as soon as they got their hands it. A simpler, yet extremely accessible PlayStation console that was being scooped up by title-hungry fans – it was a dream come true. Unfortunately, since PlayStation was hell bent on the Vita representing a miniature AAA super-machine these indies never really got a look in. Since the AAA focus has been dropped, however, the market has exploded.
There’s really never been a better time to experiment with some indie PS Vita games, and there are loads to choose from on the system. Take all the anger you harbour for Sony’s failed portable AAA promises and plunge it straight into these indies because I guarantee it will open a whole new world of the PS Vita for you.

Rejuvenate Your PS Vita Remote Play Experience
Remote Play was a big factor in my decision to buy a PS Vita all those years ago, and with the right wifi connection it turns out it works pretty well… if you’re playing a platformer. If you want to play anything more complication than side to side, jump affairs then you’re going to have to boot up your laptop and let’s face it that kind of takes the charm out of the experience. Remote Play on PS Vita just feels so much nicer, however that troublesome R2 and L2 placements have really put people off.
It’s a good thing, then, that Play Asia have released the button grip cover for PS Vita. This case provides tactile R2 and L2 trigger buttons for the PS Vita system, allowing you to finally play your shooters and Horizon Zero Dawn the way developers intended, and will considerably less smashing of the back of the console. You’ll have to be crafty to get your hands on one, and they can be pretty pricey but these PS Vita trigger grips have been popping up all over town.

- Persona 5
- Knack
- Diablo III (with some control fiddling)
Download Those PS Plus Vita Games You’ve Had Stored Up
In these trying Graduate financial times, i’ve been even more reliant on the PS Plus Gods for my monthly dose of fresh gaming content. Every month, the PS Vita gets a selection of new titles to choose from absolutely free. However, if you’re like me you might just not be feeling like playing that ultra-abstract, headache inducing voxel extravaganza right now.
Good practice is to add these kinds of games to your library anyway and save them for the PS Vita rainy day. Well the rain’s a-coming. Get those downloads rolling and find out what you’ve been missing all these months, you never know you might just find a hidden gem.
